Public Health Preparedness and Situational Awareness Reports

The Office of Preparedness and Response's (OP&R) weekly Public Health Preparedness and Situational Awareness (PHPSA) Report, formerly known as the Public Health and Emergency Preparedness Bulletin, compiles data from various surveillance systems to provide a snapshot of disease throughout Maryland. The primary data source is Maryland Department of Health's (MDH) syndromic surveillance system, the Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE). The report can be interpreted with a focus on a potential bioterrorism (BT) event. National and international reports of outbreaks due to organisms on the CDC Critical Biological Agent list are also included.
